[What is storm glass? ] According to a description by British meteorologist Robert Fitzroy, it was invented by a person named Corti, and brought to England by an Italian named Malacredi, where it became known. It is thought that crystals change with changes in temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure, and in the 19th century, they were used by sailors on their voyages as a weather forecasting tool.
[Reasons why crystals change] Reasons why crystals increase or decrease. Actually, I don't know for sure yet. For a long time, it was thought that crystals change due to atmospheric temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, etc., but it is now accepted that crystals change due to temperature changes alone. Storm glass is roughly made of a mixture of ethanol and water, and camphor. Camphor has the property of being almost insoluble in pure water but soluble in ethanol; if the mixture is heated, the camphor will dissolve and decrease, and if it is cooled, the camphor will crystallize and appear.
[What is Petit Tear? ]Petit Tear is an interior goods made from colored glass, which is rarely seen in Storm Glass. The original base was the Tempo Drop Mini, which is famous for Storm Glass, but this time the size has been reduced to the size of the palm of your hand, and the color variations include traditional Japanese colors that are inspired by the four seasons of Japan, in addition to the standard clear color. Crystals can be seen very clearly even through colored glass.
[About the installation location] The crystals of storm glass change particularly with changes in temperature, so we recommend installing it in the entrance, for example. Regardless of the changes in the crystal, if you want to admire it wherever you like, please place it in a place that is not exposed to sunlight or direct air conditioning.
[Note 1] The time it takes to crystallize varies depending on the environment. It is said that it takes about 1 to 2 weeks for the animal to adapt to the indoor environment and become stable. Depending on the environment where it is installed, camphor will gradually turn amber in color over time. Exposure to direct sunlight will accelerate discoloration. Crystallization does not deteriorate due to discoloration.
[Note 2] Storm grass is particularly sensitive to changes in temperature. When installing it, we recommend a location that is not directly exposed to air conditioners, such as an entrance where temperature changes are likely to occur. On hot summer days, most of the crystals disappear, but on cold winter days, many crystals appear and are very beautiful. If there are no crystals and you are concerned that the product is defective, please contact us. *In most cases, the reason is that the crystals disappear because the temperature is high to a certain extent.
[Note 1] Please do not display or store it in a place exposed to direct sunlight. Since it is a glass product, it may collect sunlight and cause a fire. Also, avoid places where children or pets can reach, as they may break if dropped.
[Note 2] Never heat or cool quickly. Do not expose the main unit to fire directly or place it in the microwave or freezer. Because each piece is handmade, there may be slight variations in shape, size, and weight, and due to the manufacturing process, there may be bubbles or sunspots on the glass.
